Thursday, 2nd Day

Grandma and Beth were up early and we had a beautiful heart- to heart talk over breakfast.  It is a very long time since we had the opportunity to do that, altho we both knew that the love was always there, even with minimal contact. Before  Beth left for work, Sara arrived there - having returned from Elaine's( where she slept) much earlier than I expected.  First.we raided Beth's refrigerator, so we would have food for lunch in the car ( as we were invited to do) and Sara just loved all the selections- which were healthy  and wonderful.  She even loved the gold paper plates. napkins and gold-plastic utencils.  After that, we mapped out our route for the day and general itinerary for the whole trip, taking out time constraints into consideration.  As you can tell, we did get not an early start.

But we hit the road very happily and drove to Skyline Drive as Bob had suggested.  It was a rainy, cloudy and damp day but nothing could dampen our spirits.  Sara wouldn't let it happen, saying "rain  is wonderful, we  need the rain for life to exist.  " As we climbed higher and higher in the beautiful mountains, we were driving through mist and clouds.  And the views, oh, my God, they were breathtaking. The pictures may not be as clear as we wanted, but that was climate, not us!

Day two ended at the Roanoke Hotel, a marvelous spot.

Love,
Grandma
